Senior Companion and Foster Grandparent Information Session
Eligible seniors 60+ are invited to attend
NORTH TONAWANDA, N.Y., June 12, 2008 – The Senior Companion Program and Foster Grandparent Program are hosting a welcoming event for potential volunteers at noon on June 24 at the Wheatfield Community Center, 2790 Church Rd., North Tonawanda.
Participants will be able to enjoy pizza while learning more about these two programs. Attendees will have an opportunity to ask questions and talk to current volunteers of the Senior Companion and Foster Grandparent Program. Reservations are required; please call 285-8224, ext. 239, by June 20 to reserve a seat.
Senior Companions and Foster Grandparents receive a modest tax-free stipend, pre-service and monthly training sessions, reimbursement for transportation, an annual physical, and accident and liability insurance while on duty. Volunteers must be age 60 or older, meet certain income eligibility guidelines and be able to serve between 15 and 40 hours a week.
The Senior Companion Program unites healthy seniors with homebound seniors who are in need of a friend. The Foster Grandparent Program unites seniors with children in local day care centers, schools and after school programs.
Both of these programs are sponsored by Health Association of Niagara County Inc. and funded by the Corporation for National and Community Service, the United Way, the Niagara County Office for the Aging and the New York State Office for the Aging.
