80th Anniversary
HANCI celebrated its 80th Anniversary with several events throughout 2007.
May 11 - Annual Meeting.
This event began our anniversary celebration with our Annual Meeting. With 100 people in attendance, HANCI unveiled its new logo and website.
June 6 - Last Look at the Building Reception.
A reception was held in HANCI's Intergenerational Garden with about 60 guests. This event allowed our visitors to view the building before renovations begin, and featured a basket raffle.
August 1 - A Walk Through the Roaring Twenties.
"A Walk Through the Roaring Twenties" was a held on August 1 with 1920's themed activities. There was a special screening of The Great Gatsby at the Niagara Falls Arts and Cultural Center, a presentation by the city historian, Tom Yots, on the history of Main Street in Niagara Falls, a 1920's dance performance by Niagara University students, and a sing-a-long by the musical group, Evergreen. The day concluded with a chicken dinner catered by The Brickyard.
August 16 - Current and Past Employee Picnic.
A HANCI picnic at Hyde Park with current and past employees was a great way to reconnect with friends. With about 100 people in attendance, the afternoon was relaxing with hot dogs and hamburgers and a variety of dishes.
September 12 - Lockport Birthday Party.
A HANCI birthday at The Dale Association in Lockport included a presentation on the history of the Erie Canal, remarks by community leaders and HANCI leadership. Guests enjoyed the afternoon with birthday cake and punch.
October 21 - The Niagara County Senior Prom.
The Niagara County Senior Prom bridges the ‘generation gap' and unites young people with older adults in a spirit of fun and fellowship. 325 student and seniors attended this year and enjoyed anniversary cakes at each table.
November 4 - Interfaith Service.
The interfaith service concluded HANCI's 80th anniversary celebration. The service included prayers and readings in the Jewish, Christian and Muslim faith traditions. The Rev. Joseph L. Levesque, CM, president of Niagara University, was the featured speaker. Dr. Laurence Boxer of Temple Beth Israel, the Rev. Stanley Gordon Smith of St. John AME Church, and Imam Fajri Ansari of Masjid Nu'Man Islamic Center in Buffalo offered prayers and readings from their respective faiths. The Niagara Falls Housing Authority Youth Choir provided music.
